Heinz was a prisoner of war initially in Egypt at the Maadi interrogation camp near Cairo, then to the Suez camp whereafter he was transferred to Canada. In Canada he was kept prisoner in camps near Montreal (Grande Ligne) and Seebi (near Rocky mountains). After the war he was transferred to a camp near Glasgow and eventually released in 1947.
